How should I configure after-hours call routing for a local towing business?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently using a SignalWire phone number for a local towing and roadside-assistance business in Moses Lake, Washington. The business is Moses Lake Towing & Recovery, and I'm working on setting up a reliable way to handle customer calls outside normal business hours.

The main issue I'm trying to solve is making sure an incoming call doesn't get missed when the person on duty isn't immediately available.

Ideally, I'd like the setup to work something like this:

  • Incoming call reaches the SignalWire number

  • It rings the primary phone first

  • If there is no answer after a certain amount of time, it forwards to a backup number

  • If nobody answers, the caller gets an appropriate voicemail message

  • I'd also like to know whether SMS can be handled through the same number

I'm using the number for the actual business project, which is Moses Lake Towing & Recovery.

For anyone who has implemented SignalWire for a small business, what would be the simplest way to build this type of call flow?

Would you recommend using SWML, the Compatibility API, or another SignalWire approach for the routing and fallback logic?

I'm particularly interested in keeping the setup reliable and simple because some of the calls may be urgent roadside-assistance requests.

Thanks for any advice.
